Newark Works in Bath is a newly refurbished building, within the Bath enterprise zone it is the only remaining 19th century works of engineering firm, Stothert & Pitt which pioneered development of dockside and offshore cranes, and which produced heavy engineering for military projects such as tanks and landing craft.
Telet, Neutral Host Networks and IQ mobile have established an Open RAN laboratory. One of the challenges of Open RAN is integrating all of the vendors. Making sure that equipment which is supposed to work together actually does. The WORD project brings together infrastructure from Antevia, Benetel, cellXica, IS Wireless and Radisys. The lab proves that that technology all works together. It forms a centre of excellence and develops the skills locally. Neutral Host Networks will hire a number of apprentices and train them up on Open, RAN to help develop the local mobile 5G mobile technology skillset set in the area.
